One of the biggest misconceptions new website or business creators might make when starting up online, is how to brand their website. Branding is one of the most important steps in your SEO plan. With a proper SEO plan, search engine will increase customer traffic, grow interactions, and rank your website highly among relevant searches.
So How Does Branding Affect Me Anyway?
Let’s say you suddenly discover that your household is running low on forks. Where have they all gone? No one knows, but you need more. You get on your phone and type in forks, or silverware to the search engine. This is called a generic search term. It is not often that someone has their favorite brand of forks they are searching for. However, if your website is a fork company, you want to show up at the top of the page. Keywords can help your page move into that top spot and drive consumers to your page. If I owned a silverware company I would want to use my Domain-Level Keyword in my name. For example, “Madison’s Silverware” or “Madison’s Forks, Knives, and Spoons” but not just “Madison’s.” With those keywords in my name, when someone does just get online and search forks, their drop down suggestion box may include “Madison’s Forks, Knives, and Spoons.”
Other Effective Factors
- Keyword Usage – Besides having your main keyword directly correlated, you are going to need many more keywords throughout your page to keep drawing consumers. To decide what other keywords you should use, create a keyword strategy. A keyword strategy is a clear outline of what kind of content your groups of keywords are attracting. If your keywords are not targeting the right audience and answering their questions, you need to rethink your strategy.
- Link Features – When you attach your website to a link feature you want your website to be like the anchor. The part that all the links lead a user to. These is most commonly recognized as the colored words on a webpage that you can click on and get redirected to another page. This again will increase rankings to your site and help build your brand name.
- Social Media – When it comes to social media and branding, this can be one of the easiest and most cost effective ways of targeting and audience and increasing customer traffic. The first step it to make sure all of your usernames or @names have the same brand keywords as your website. This again will increase the probability of your company showing up first in a generic word search on google.
Final Thoughts
When you type in your company’s name to google and see that you are at the top of the list, it is very exciting to see that you come up first. Remember though, for all these non brand searches, you need keywords and content that will drive users to your site. The amount of effort and tactics you put into increasing customer traffic, the better. Focus on keywords with on all your social media platforms to really help anchor your website. Effective branding will lead to an effective SEO.
