Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, has completely changed the business world and enhanced the way people can search information and find certain content instantly right at their fingertips. There are millions of registered websites on the internet that can be accessed by anyone that has a computer and access to an internet connection. Most, if not all of these websites contain information that is free to the public.

When it comes to finding specific content on the internet, Google is the most-used search engine. What Google does to enhance your search results is pretty unique. Google uses what are called “backlinks” to determine how much they trust your website. A backlink is when one website shares a link to another website, which gives more exposure to the other website. The more backlinks that are linked to your website, the more likely it is that Google will put your website higher up in the rankings within their search engine. This leads to more traffic to your website because your website is likely ranked higher on the search engine results page, or SERP. Google also pays attention to the quality of backlinks related to your website.

If you are wanting or needing more backlinks related to your website, there are few different things you can do to create them. One of these ways is through social media. If you have a strong social media presence, sharing a link to your website on your social media platform will increase your search result ranking. Having your website link back to a particular article is another great way, especially if the article has legitimate exposure online. Lastly, discussion boards and blog posts are good for backlinks if they also have solid exposure and legitimacy on the internet.

There are many reasons why SEO is important to a business. My opinion is that growth is the number one reason. Whether your business is big or small, search engine optimizationopens up so many doors for you that you wouldn’t otherwise have. The exposure that it gives your company can essentially be viral and crucial to sustaining company growth and innovation. A small business should never underestimate the power of search engine optimization. Small business can grow in short periods of time if SEO is taken seriously.

The quality of search that one can experience through Google’s search engine really depends on the keywords that are used on the available websites. The keywords are vital because they allow Google to see your website and understand the content that it has. For example, if your website’s main purpose to is sell snorkeling gear, it would be a good idea to have words like “beach”, “snorkel equipment”, “snorkeling” etc. on your webpage. These keywords will help your page get more exposure and enhance the SEO results.
